If you are racing a crossflow engine, there are two sources you should know
about. Dave Bean (209/754-5802) and JAE (805/967-5767). They are both very
knowledgeable and I am sure could answer your questions. I have bought parts
from both and would do so again at any time. According to the Bean catalog (a
must-have), the uprated had a heavier crank with beefier counterbalances,
square shoulder main caps, bigger valves and a chamberless head. The thing
with uprated engines is that almost evrything is interchangeable so there are
lots of variations of parts that can be in one engine. Another parts source is
BAT (813/355-0005), but I have not asked them for tech help so I can't vouch
for them (they may be fine). There is only one book on the subject "Tuning the
Ford Crossflow Engine", and it is not of much use on a full-race engine
(mostly hot street tips), although probably worth having. It is available from
Dave Bean and Classic Motorbooks. Good luck on your project - it's a great
car! Let me know if there is anything I can help with.
