There may be a place and time for this, but maybe not most of vintage racing-
1) Many of the more affordable and enjoyable meets I've been to are "club"
events, with few or no spectators.
2) While *promoters* may make money at the bigger crowd events, these events
often cost the racers more, and yeild more hassle, and less track time.
3) Unlike NASCAR, INDY, some SCCA, and Saturday night racing, car sponsorships
are usually not allowed to be shown on vintage cars. There goes the
advertizing income for the car owners. (Not that I'd mind someone covering my
tyre & petrol costs!)
Seems like the sport of Vintage/Historic Racing, and certainly the average
owner/driver often looses more from running at big events rather than gains.
And that's without letting anyone encourage rough driving! These old cars,
budgets, and drivers aren't up for it.
While Vintage/Historic events are great fun to attend & watch, the whole nature
of the beast is different from the fan series mentioned. There's no points, no
championship, and no money to be won. These cars have done their time- this is
supposed to be for fun!
