Andrew,
Actually, I take a position somewhere in the m,iddle on this one.
Yip, HQ racing is fairly plebian as far as the folks doing it is concerned.
It's easy to tell there's an HQ race on the programme as the paddock is host
to 18 year old girls with extreme cellulite (thanks to mctesticle burgers
presumably.
However, HQ racing produces dense grids, is great to watch and the cars
sound fab (which is precisely what I think touring cars / sedans / saloons -
call them what you want - is all about).
As to the "tragedy" of emptying pubs with would be's if they could be's, I
tend to think the more the merrier in all forms of motorsport, the fewer
morons there are to watch all that thuggery involving rolling around in
muddy fields fondling inflated cattle intestines, which is undoubtedly a
good thing for civilisation.
Of course, we all know Braithwaite is a profound snob (pretty bizarre given
that he races Formula Ford and even takeson the children in the NSW state
series occasionally) but after all, he did race an RX2 once, so perhaps that
accounts for it. I mean he even ridicules the speedway (he's never been to
Paramatta despite living in Oz for almost 30 years!), which not only do I
attend frequently in all parts of Australia and anywhere else where they
have such things, - and boy the cellulited members of the nubility in HQ
paddocks resemble Catherine Deneuve compared to a sample cross-section of
average speedway punters.
Anyway, long may HQ racing last - although when will it be historic Andrew?
Just think, if you get Group C sedans to play with, then...?
Oh, and Andrew, given your august position within the ranks of the NSW
historic saloon fraternity, once again my thanks for packed grids and great
racing during 1997.
Regards,
Patrick

>Is this the night for elitist open wheeler threads? It might be a lot
better for Historic motorsport in Australia if people recognised that most
Australian motorsport spectators are more interested in tin tops than open
wheelers. Also, tin tops (and non racing history sports cars) represent a
reasonable percentage of the entries at NSW all-Historic Race Meetings -
alienate these people and you will find that race entry fees will need to
escalate dramatically in order to cover costs (do you really want that?).
>
>Look at the normal grids for HQs at major race meetings - they are usually
on maximum grid density. In contrast look at some of the other grids - they
are pretty puny. Some people may not like to think of HQs racing (although
they did during their original period) because the grids look like a pub car
park - so what; if the guys are out there having fun should we decry that?
>
>As usual I'll ask our overseas list members for their views - if the cars
are old (over 20 years) and conform to all required safety standards, do you
see any problem with having such cars racing around (and providing good
spectator interest as well) and giving the drivers a cheap (relatively)
entry category into motorsport?
