There has been much discussison on a "pre-59" class for vintage racers that
are not as strung out as more serious and newer cars. In CVAR, we have
started a race group for mostly 1961 and earlier cars. We have a list of
approved cars, such as allowing newer cars similar to those that were in
production in 1961 (ex: 1965 Healery 3000 and 1962 Corvette). We don't allow
certain other cars (Mk.II Sprite and Mk.1 Midget, just Bugeyes). The cars
have to have both seats, 60-series or taller treaded tires and no flares or
other bodywork changes. Any car not in the "spirit" can be moved to our
regular race groups. Also, disc brakes cannot be substituted for drums unless
they can be documented for that era (i.e. on 356 Porsches). We have a growing
group with mostly Healeys and other mid-sized cars as well as some
sports-racers (Porsche RS-60/Allard/Kurtis).
I predict this will be a trend everywhere.
