Tom-

He's not the greatest, not yet anyway. Given the Williams car,
Villeneuve's merely done what the expected. To have not won in the
Williams this year would have been extraordinary.

Looking back over Villeneuve's year, lots and lots of mistakes...some, but
few moments of brilliance. Much learning. He's good...but he's not yet a
Schumacher, and if you'd prefer another comparison closer to home, he's no
Jeff Gordon either.

On the other hand, what he did, at the conclusion of the race, letting
Hakkinen by for the win, was one of the most extraordinary things I've ever
seen in sports. That and the way he "explained" it in the press
conference, without detracting in any way from Hakkinen's win, certainly
elevates young Jacques as a human being. He's a fine person...perhaps one
finest in the sport...

...One day, he may also be the best driver!

:-)
