Hi Pete,
In all my travels, owning and knowing people who own Spits, EVERYONE, I
mean EVERYONE I know says, I'd rather have a 1296 than a 1500. If the
machine shop can fix the thrust washer problem these engines have, it'll
do OK, but the 1296 is a better design for racing. And a lot of vintage
groups have much less trouble accepting a 64 with a 1296 rather than one
with a 1500. Either way, good luck!
