The Tustin Thunder was a spectacular event. It was staged at the MCAS
Tustin. -We arrived to unload and set-up on Thursday. We were
fortunate to see a retirement ceremony.
A Master Gunnery Sargent (E8) was retiring. He volunteered to learn
Vietnamese in 1965 and had several tours of duty in Viet Nam....and
lived to tell about it.
Full band and smart marching Marines....in full color. Good show.
Races: I think there were about 400 hundred entrants -312 of which
were Vintage. The balance were American Spec Trucks, IRRA -Sportsman
cars and Fourmula Russsel cars.
The track was about 2.2 miles in legnth with 11 decreasing radii
turns.
Lot of HEAT and People. No Goodyear Blimp this year. !110! Vipers
on the track on a parade lap at the same time!. MR. C.Shelby was
present. And for you Triumph and Nissan people so was Kas Kastner.
