I am forwarding this letter from Pat Ryan to the Vintage Mail List in
the hopes that some of you will contact some of the current owners of
SVRA and express your feelings that things need to be changed and the
idea started with Pat has some merit.

Thanks,

Jeff Snook
Battle of Britain Racing

An open letter to Members and Friends of SVRA from Pat Ryan

You might have heard that there is a plan in the works to turn SVRA into =
a member owned non-profit club. Pat Ryan, David Whiteside and Carl =
Jensen have been working for several months to make this happen. Under =
the plan proposed to the current four owners, Syd Silverman, Henry =
Payne, Michael Amalfitano and Frank Rupp, the club would be sold to a =
new organization known as the "Friends of SVRA". The new non-profit =
company would raise funds by selling Charter Memberships to any current =
or former SVRA member who would like to be one of the new owner-members =
and have a vote in the new club.

Pat Ryan and David Whiteside have been working as facilitators to help =
the current owners determine the specifics under which they would agree =
to sell the club's name, events and other assets. Neither Pat nor David =
would have any position or interest in the new club other than being one =
of many owner-members. Thirty or so members were surveyed during the =
Homestead race week and found to be almost unanimous in their support of =
the concept.

The new owner-members would elect a five person Board of Directors, =
which would include a three person executive committee. The five would =
be joined by the two former chairmen, Syd Silverman and Henry Payne, as =
permanent non-elected voting members. The new club would allow all =
group members to elect their Group Representative each year and the nine =
Group Reps would form a board, which would meet at every event and have =
veto power on any racing rules changes. The new company's charter =
contains the basics you have come to expect from SVRA: Solid 13/13 =
enforcement, respect for the traditional group structures and history =
requirements, no reduction of track time per group. This proposed =
ownership change is not about changing the nature of SVRA, quite the =
contrary, it is about getting back to the basic values.

Implicit in the plan are better communications with the owner-members =
through frequent surveys and a web page, a club more responsive to the =
broad membership since the owners will be from the broad membership and =
will elect officers from the broad membership. There will be more fun =
and fewer distractions.

At Homestead the owners agreed in principal with the concept of selling =
the company to the members and have helped write the new charter. Frank =
Rupp has been replaced by Syd Silverman as President but Frank continues =
as General Manager. Carl Jensen has been the Competition Director since =
Homestead.

We have had trouble communicating lately. Since the idea was first =
considered favorably at Homestead there have only been three meetings, =
one on March 17 and two meetings of less than one hour at Savannah. =
There are still important details to be worked out and much time has =
passed without progress.

The interim period has many risks and problems but time keeps passing =
by. Things seem to have lost their urgency. The owners need to know =
what the members think about this concept. They have had little input =
recently. If you are in favor let them know. Real soon. Please pass =
this letter along to 10 friends you think may care about SVRA's future. =
Please ask them to send it to 10 more.
