Hey folks- Outside of the obvious, such as Blower Bentleys, does anyone run
superchargers on otherwise basicly production engines? I haven't seen any
in my class, (Under 1 litre production) and can't quite remember what SVRA says
about them, but VARAC rules allow:
10.0 Engine
10.4 Appropriate add-on or bolt-on speed equipment of the particular
vehicle's time period is permitted, provided it was commercially
available for that vehicle. Examples: Abarth, Alexander, Aquaplane,
Cosworth, Derrington, Downton, Empi, Judson, Martin, Ram, Rudd, or
Speedwell. Other examples may be acceptable, subject to approval of
the VARAC Eligibility Committee.
So, has anyone seen Blown Bugeyes or some such? Why, or why not? I know that
there were superchargers readily available, esp. for the 948 engine. I realize
operating conditions include otherwise low-compression engines, and I've heard
some tales from someone who ran one 'back when that you could go through heads
pretty quick, but I'd expect todays shops could turn out a fairly rugged S.C.
engine.
Problems? Reliability? Parts cost or availability? Classing? Other comments?
