To all of you that read and responded to my request for information and
opinions on the Hagemann-Simca Special last week, I just thought you might
be interested in how coincidental life can be.
First, I have a co-worker that I see once a month or so and we have a
running discussion about his father's racing days and sports car ownership
back in the '50s. This fellow has no interest or knowlege of cars but he
was sure that his father had some pictures stored away somewhere. I didn't
put much hope on his ever finding them and bringing them to work. Well,
they showed up on Friday- mostly of Pebble Beach in 1953. And, you guessed
it, there was a nice, full-frame black and white shot of the Hagemann-Simca
Special in the pits. Lots of good information for someone looking to piece
that thing together.
Second, I was presented with some more cans of 16mm film to evaluate and
consider for a follow up film to "Hay Bales and Asphalt". Among other
races, there was extensive coverage of the Moffett Air Base Races in 1953.
And, of course, a beautiful, full frame color shot of Chick Lesson driving
the car down the front straight.
To me, this much unsolicited exposure to this little car is beyond amazing,
it's bizarre.
