Eric Storhok writes:"I have come up with the perfect vintage package for an
Alfa owner: find
one of the Alfa powered sports racers (which are out there- thanks for the
info)- small, light, agile, reasonable power, SIMPLE. So they are somewhat
rare- so what- this is a "dream"...

Tow car: From the '60s either a Giulia Station Wagon (or estate- whatever you
call them at your home), or one of the Alfa vans. Both modified to handle
the extra load: bigger engine, cooling pack, etc...

So you have a simple car to race with, and a vintage car with lots of storage
to tow with- perfect combination!!! (I'm sure I'm not the first with an idea
lile this...)"

As the owner/racer of a 69 D-sports racer and having watched others with
these nifty little beasts, I cand assure you that they may LOOK simple, but
are really devious complex and expensive mistresses. But oh boy, do they
ever give a thrill on the track. I also have had the experience of owning
two late model Alfas. Nice cars, but NOT what you want for a tow vehicle,
(reliability and grunt). For a vintage tow vehicle I prefer Bo Lemmon's 46
Caddie sedan, or Alan Johannson's 48 Caddie hearse.
When attendingt a post-historic, (vintage to us yanks), race at Oulton Park
a few years ago, I saw a '28 Bentley tourer with a tow hitch on the back,
of which I'm sure Ettore Bugatti would have approved.
BTW if you find that sports racer with a 1300 Alfa engine, I've got a 6
pack that says I can blow you away with my 850 Honda power!
