This info come from the Fall issue of FORZA:
The original race ran from 1927 to 1957 with a few years off for
the war.
The course for 1991 'Storica was: Start in Bresica to Montchiari,
Asola, Colorno, Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena, Bologna, Firenze,
Siena, Viterlo to Rome. From Rome, Rieti, Leonessa, Maddalena
Recanati, Ancona, Pesaro, Rimini, Ravenna Ferrara, Ostigia, Verona
and back to Bresica.
A sidebar in the article relates the relative cost of various
expenses you will encounter should you choose to run in the Historic
Mille Miglia... E.g.:
Car shipping (round trip from the west coast) $10,000
Airfare (for two) $2,000
Rental car (one week) $1,000
Gas ~$5 x 100 gal $500
Hotel (5 nights) $1,000
Dining ~$1,400
Souvenirs, etc. $1,000
Entry fee $2,500
Of course if you feel profligate you can always spend more...
But you may be able to get away a tad more cheaply. BTW, if you
take a support "crew" add approx. $2,000 per person. Ciao!
