I run two Alfa Spiders, a '59 Giulietta normal (single carb) 1300 set
up for VSCCA and a '62 which started as a Giulietta normal when my
brother and I raced it in SCCA FP and GP in the '60's but I have
upgraded to 1600 Veloce specs for SVRA, VARAC and the unlimited VSCCA
events.

You know the VSCCA her in New England does not allow Spits?

For the most part, a vintage car can be made eligible for SCCA
production racing (as my '62 was done) but not vice versa. Vintage
groups frown on fiberglass body parts, big flares and low profile
tires. Practically no engine prep rules exist in vintage, so you find
SCCA+ engines common. My 1600 engine has, for example , illegal big
valves according to SCCA. The car has a SCCA legal rollcage, disk
brakes, alloy wheels and other goodies.

On vintage tires, mu best lap times at New Hampshire are about 11 sec
of the lap record for EP. Tires might make up for 4-6 sec, so I'd be
mid field competitive.

But why bother running with a bunch of Kamakazes? At least in vintage,
body contact is a no-no, and at here in the east, you can run ~15
events a season if you have the time. I'll run 8-10 myself.

Race engines cost whatever you want to spend. I'd guess $3000 is bare
minimum, $5-8000 normal, and the Tibetan national debt for a SCCA
winner. A guy who works near me is trying to sell a complete racecar
retired in 1974 or so cheap with race engine prepped by somebody with a
rep, if you're interested. The car is in NY.

Also, I gather Spitfires are famous for breaking axles. I've seen
special axles for sale for ~$1K!

BTW, missed you at LRP last weekend. We had great weather, plenty of
track time and lots of fun!
