Fellow listers,
Having joined recently, I haven't got a clue how many people receive these
messages. Judging from the number of messages I received so far, activity is
not so high.
Nevertheless I would like to ask the group a question. Being a historian on
British cars, with a slight preference for Morgans, I attempt to find out as
much as I can about the history about individual cars, rather than solely
the make. An American dealership that was rather active in British cars in
the 1950s and 1960s was Fergus Motors/Fergus Fine Cars in New York.
They imported Morgan and Turner, to name but a few, but also small Italian
makes. So far I have found no evidence for them importing TVR cars, but I
would not be surprised if they did. Fergus fitted all the cars which they
sold with a plaque which gave the address of the dealership and a stock
number. By means of the stock number it is possible to trace back (roughly)
from which time a car dates.
I would be interested to learn if there are any people among you who own
cars handled by Fergus and if that's the case I would like to know the make,
type, year, chassis number and stock number of the car(s) involved.
Additional data are always welcome, of course.
Many thanks in advance for any data you can come up with.
Kindest regards,
Hermen Pol
