Hello,
I thought about that and did some comparing. The first thing you notice is
that the TR6 uprights are a few inches taller than the Herald/Spit unit. I
can't remember the exact measurement, but it's 3 or 4 inches longer. Looks
to me like you would have to relocate the upper a-arm mounts on the car or
cut the appropriate amount out of the TR6 upright and weld it back together.
The diameter of the trunnion stud is larger than the Herald/Spit so you need
to adapt the TR6 trunnion assembly to the lower a-arm. And the upper
balljoint to the upper a-arm. The upper should be easier to do if you use
the a-arm from an M-chassis. Looked like so much work that I gave up on the
idea......until now ;-)
Hmmmmmm.......... if you use the upright and a-arms from an
M-chassis.......well, you would still need to relocate the upper a-arm
mounts, probably by welding a new tube on top of the Vixen main tube. The
lower a-arm mounts might also need to be relocated. I think the distance
between the bushings is different from the Vixen. We still have shocks and
steering arms to consider. I'm not sure what that might involve.
I will be looking at an M-chassis this week. I'll let you know what else I
see
There must be an upright from SOMETHING that would be "easier" to fit. I
wonder what the street-rod guys use?
