They are completely different transmissions and shifter mechanisms. The GT6
trans uses the Spitfire case but the guts are very different.
The sifter has a vibration isolator in it which is made of rubber and fails
after years of use.
The good news it it is readily available as a kit and easy to install. I think
you can do it just removing the shift boot. If not the trans cover will need
to come off.
Basically at the end of the shift lever is a large hole with a rubber bushing
and a steel liner all held together with a small bolt. You should replace the
spring and plastic bushing that the sift lever pivots on as well while you are
there. It is all part of the kit.
It will never be quite as tight and precise as a TR shifter but it should feel
pretty good when all is renewed.
