When you turn the motor over on the starter the light should blink with
each pulse of the ignition. Once the engine is running it will be on
constantly.
Electronics usually work or fail and are not usually intermittent. You
should check that you have a full 12 volts at the power wire of the
ignition module at all times.
Also did you reverse the wiring for the coil when you changed to
negative ground? The CB terminal should be connected to the power from
the ignition switch.
