All,
So there I was, head in hand wondering aloud, ?How is this effing thing sti=
ll so slow?? ...
Desperate for advice, I am wondering if hooking it directly to the car batt=
ery might be too much power?
I mean, I would expect that raw energy to make the damned thing take flight=
or something, with zero resistance in the line.

itzerland, But I do recall my TR4A had a 2 speed switch. Check your switch =

A friend asked me to look at his car today, poor running after he replaced =
the module in his Mallory distributor. While I know nothing about electroni=
c ignition, I understand Lucas, a quick look with a strobe showed it runnin=
g about 25 degrees ATDC at 1000rpm.=C2=A0 I suspect a small difference in t=
he placement of the sensor in the module.=C2=A0
Thinking this is a simple fix the loosen the hold-down plate and reset the =
dizzy, I could not budge it.=C2=A0 I didn't want to use any tool to force i=
t as I am worried about the aluminium body.=C2=A0=C2=A0
Any tips on how to safely get an aluminium dizzy out of a cast iron block?=
=C2=A0 Soaking with Liquid Wrench has not helped yet, maybe tomorrow.=C2=A0=
=C2=A0

If the motor has been binding for some time, it may have overheated and=C2=

shorted some windings.
I haven't opend my TR6 heater for refurbishment yet (it's on my short=C2=A0
list), so I'm not sure what type of motor it is.

Yup....the dash comes all apart.... the crash pad ?vinyl flaps? get inserte=
d behind the metal dash.... As I recall, you even have to loosen the metal =
dash to install the pads. Same goes for the top dash pad which goes under t=
he windshield frame and behind the metal dash.

I was going to quickly replace the lower driver side fascia for a 1974 TR6;=
however, I cannot believe that, according to the service manual, you must =

Speaking of Fred I?d like to take the opportunity to offer up for distribut=
ion the FT memorial stickers and ?clingers?. I believe I got these from Mar=
ty Sukey at some point in the past and promptly lost them in one of my many=
piles of stuff. They resurfaced when I was looking for something else?that=
always happens.
I?m going to be at VTR starting next Tuesday and will have them with me. So=
if you remember Fred Thomas or if you?re one of the 1000?s he ever helped =
with any powder coating related tasks (he taught me how), or if he helped y=
ou find a part or make a repair, or if you just want a remembrance of one t=
he icons of the Triumph community then ask me at VTR or pick one up at the =
car show where they will be on my car windshield for the taking.
Freddie was more than just a powder coating guru. He set the standard, at l=
east the one I strive for, on how to be a Triumph owner. And that was to ma=
ke your car as nice as you can, make it as reliable as you can, and drive i=
t as much as you can. I?ll always have a FT sticker on my car and on my too=
l boxes so I?ll never forget that lesson.
Here?s a couple pics to show what the stickers and clingers look like.
My first Fred story is this.=C2=A0 After watching me do a 360 in the autocr=
oss Fred came up introduced himself and suggested some different tire press=
ures. I was willing but had no air tank or compressor so Fred went to one o=
f his many friends and found one and brought it back to me. That was the st=
art of a great friendship.=C2=A0
I still have a picture of the oil drips Fred?s TR3A left on my driveway whe=
n he and Dan Masters came by my house on the way to VTR 2001 in Breckenridg=
e. Yes, even FT?s car leaked a little.
Second story.=C2=A0 I called Fred to ask him a question right before the 20=
04 VTR and he told me he?d been in his work pit, (the old fashioned below g=
round level type) that only Fred had, and had been waxing his frame. Only F=
red waxed his frame before VTR. But then only Fred won as many best of show=
awards as he did.

dule in his Mallory distributor. While I know nothing about electronic igni=
tion, I understand Lucas, a quick look with a strobe showed it running abou=
t 25 degrees ATDC at 1000rpm. I suspect a small difference in the pla=

ule in his Mallory distributor. While I know nothing about electronic<br id=
=3D"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1475340019560_30048">ignition, I understand Lucas, a =
quick look with a strobe showed it running<br id=3D"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_14753=
40019560_30049">about 25 degrees ATDC at 1000rpm. I suspect a small d=
ifference in the<br id=3D"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1475340019560_30050">placement =
