Many thanks to those of you who offered to help.



Thanks to Dave for your recommendation on the reverse carbide bit as well.



I decided that this one was out of my league and called in a specialist -
$65 and Gilbert Machine in Las Vegas had it done in = an hour.  It was a
broken tap.  They cut in new 3/8 (I think) 20 TPI BSF threads and Im off
to the races.
