Hi Peter,  I had the same problem on my Stag with the inlet manifold.  I ended
up buying an engine hoist and chained it to the manifold and lifted it enough
just to put the manifold,under some tension.  Then Tapped around the manifold
lightly with a mallet or hammer and that broke,it loose.  Same thing should
work on the head.  Just don't put so much tension on it that when it breaks
loose it flys apart and damages you or the car.
