I think you can do different things with clearcoat. on my 6, which is
supposed to have a flat black tail, my painter used clearcoat and (don't ask
me how) gave it a flat instead of gloss finish. I think its absolutely
perfect in mimicing the flat black, yet gives me a surface I can clean and
polish.

Got to thinking during this thread. Can you go the basecoat/clearcoat route
and use a less glossy clearcoat to more closely mimic the original
single-stage paints?
