Don't know much about TR-3's
but is the throttle linkage bound up
somewhere?no.checked that
Or, in another way of talking, do you need to
shorten the linkage between
the foot pedal and the carbs? no.checked that
Are
the throttle shafts bottoming out against
their stops? ???? they appear to be
closing fully. i don't see any linkage interference.
I've had tractors where
dirt, hay dust, and other detritus
prevents the throttle linkage from coming
all the way back down to the
minimum speed position.
On a car, maybe you need
to look at things like vacuum leaks, as well.yes. that is what i was trying to
do squirting the brake cleaner around. supposedly if i had found a vacuum leak
the brake cleaner would be sucked in causing the idle to ge even higher. the
only places i can think of on a TR3 are:
vacuum line to the distributor.
throttle shafts where they go through the carbs.
inlet manifolds

seems i had been running
with a failing plug wire for while.
idle had been around 600/700
replaced plug
wire and am running strong on all 4 cylinders again.
but idle has been at 1500
and i cant seem to get it down.
the adjustment screws on the carbs are
completely out. not even touching.
tried pulling the throttle closed by
hand..nope tried advancing the ignition
timing..nope tried retarding
ignition..nope.
sprayed brake cleaner on all 4 parts of the throttle shaft.
had slight
effect and idle speed went down just a tad. wet the throttle shafts
with
engine oil/30 wt..no change.
any thoughts?
Frank
