I was over at a friends house on Friday - he's getting ready to put a
TR4 transmission in a TR3. Looks like there should be no problem
installing the physical unit.
I was only there briefly and wearing good clothes - so I did not do
much, except play with the shifter - I put the TR3 shift lever
assembly into the TR4 transmission and it did not feel like it was
getting good engagement. The shifting felt quite mushy.... The shift
lever does not look overly worn but I'm not ruling it out.
Does anyone know if there is a difference in the lower half of the TR3
to TR4 shift levers? The one in the TR3 has the anti chatter spring
and we don't have a tr4 lever to compare.
If it is different - is it possible to transplant the top cover by
swapping the reverse rail between the two transmissions?
I'm going to bring the lever from the Tr2 over there this afternoon
and have a go.
I may be doing a similar transplant in the future myself.
