For a TR6, there's three 5 speed conversion kits out there: HVDA, Eaglegate
and Dupont. The first two use the Toyota W58 tranny while Dupont uses the T5
tranny. Quantum Mechanics and Moss used to offer conversions based on a
Ford transmission but I don't know if they still do.
I went with Herman's kit (HVDA) because, at the time, he was the only one
offering a complete drop in, no cutting or mods required conversion. The W58
was readily available at a fairly cheap price. They've become "harder" to
find and some folks blame all the people doing the conversion but I think
it's just the fact that the cars supplying these transmissions are now 30
years old and most end up getting crushed instead of recycled.
Herman is a great guy to work with, provides a high quality product and
supports his sales. I documented my complete installation on web site which
should be helpful to anyone doing this conversion:

The only downside to the W58 is the cost of a rebuild. The only thing you
can do to a W58 without a complete teardown is to replace the front and rear
seals. If it needs bearings or synchros, it's a teardown.

Herman supplied the TR6 cluctch disk in my conversion so a clutch plate is
not nessesary.
I have the conversion in my 3A and I love it, I would recommend the w-56
(Celica) transmission, it will give the higher gear ratio.
