The brass is considerably softer than chrome (or steel) and hence less prone to scratch. And while it's more expensive than steel wool (MMC gets $4.12 for a package of 3 pads), it's a LOT cheaper than new chrome. Steel wool is also prone to leave tiny particles of itself caught in any pits in the chrome, which can later rust and make a mess. -- Randall |
