The SCCA allows bracing onto structural body parts (such as wheel arches)
when it is inconvenient (or impossible) to secure it to the frame. This is
for Autocross rules. Not sure about road race rules (GCR).

My opinion, such a thing is impossible. To be good for anything except
bragging, a roll bar has to tie into the frame. But the frame is in a very
inconvenient place to attach a roll bar. Hence the only way to do it right
is to weld in additional steel to mate the roll bar to the frame.
Anything that just bolts to the sheet metal will just rip right out before
it will do any good in an accident.
