After watching our first 3 kids trash cars within a year (and get tickets) I
finally figured out the trick with our youngest. She wanted a VW Bug but
rather than buying a running car we bought a real basket case and together
we spent a year doing a full restoration. I've got to tell you that was one
money saving move. You can do a full restoration, replacing everything with
new or reproduction, painting Etc for $3500.00. (A full professionally done
engine rebuild, everything being replaced with new except the block halves
was $800 including labor)
She drove it for seven years and never got a ticket and took care of it like
it was made of gold. Only problem I had is that she refuses to sell it so
it sits in my driveway now that she has a "new Car"
Bob Nogueira, Dallas TX ( Nothing like block sanding a car to insure it is
parked in the remote section of a lot)
