Use an ohmmeter. A "6 volt" coil will measure about 1.5 ohms whereas a "12
volt" coil will measure 3 or more. Also, there will be a second wire that
connects to the coil. On some models such as the 74 model both wires will be
brought right to the quick connect terminal at the coil.
In theory you can use your 6 volt coil on a 76 TR6 but check just in case a
PO has rewired things.
