Belts can get the job done.
Personal experience is about a 50MPH impact quartering from passenger side
front. The car spun 360 degrees, which likely absorbed a lot of the impact.
Outcome was severe bruising around the belt area for me and my wife. Plus a
torn fingernail from her hand striking windshield frame.
Staying in the car is usually a big a plus. Belts are good.
