David,
You may not have anything wrong with the differential as the clunk you hear is
typical when the differential mount fails.? If I were you, I would repair the
frame first, remount the differential and see if the repair to the frame takes
care of your clunk.? My money is that it will.? Many of us have been there and
done that.? Check out my experience and how it was repaired at
triumphowners.com/108 under the picture section titled Differential Mount
Reinforcement Repair.? Send another post or two to the list if you have more or
specific quesitons.

Two years and 8400 miles ago I replaced my very loud differential with one
that I bought 'as-is' for $200.
Until last month it worked well, but now there's a loud 'clunk' every time
the drive train is engaged. Even worse, I have a cracked frame near one of
the nuts holding the differential.
I don't see any choice about getting the frame welded.
But what about the differential?
Do I find another 'as-is'?
Or do members recommend getting mine rebuilt? Is the going rate really
about $900?
Any advice welcome.
Thanks so much.
