Hi Bob,
The problem may not be the contact rod in the steering hub. This problem os
common to TRs. It is caused by the turn signal cam coming into close
proximity with the horn contact ring.
To cure the problem remove the turn signal housing and switch. With a pair of
pliers remove the turn signal cam from the steering shaft. Then cut half the
distance from the top end of the cam to the locating dimple off of the cam.
Reinstall and you problem is gone.
