I gutted mine about 5 years ago when I was getting drag on the front brakes.
Not terrible but lots of brake dust on those Spa White TR4 rims (BTW - great
color choice for one of the dirtiest parts of the car).
I finally put it back on this year as my daily drive included 16 miles of
twisty mountain road. Seems to be okay for now so perhaps a thorough
cleaning was all that was needed.
As noted, the brakes were always there... just a pump away. More of a
driving enjoyment issue than a safety issue.
