Randall, I finally figured it out with the help of the BL carb pages. It
does make a difference when it miss adjusted. It pulls the vapors for the
fuel bowl, riching the mixture.
But the vapor from the fuel bowl should go into the engine regardless of the
idle valve position. All it does is change the route, either through the
air filter or through the top of the carbon canister.
When I did this, the carbs/car idled great.
Glad to hear you got the problem solved, and apologies for the poor advice.
All I can say is that on my Stag, opening that valve at idle (when it should
be closed) makes no detectable difference.
