Right. The change happened around TS50k, at the same time as the starter
bulge got bigger for the later starter. However, the 3-synchro top covers
interchange, so it's easy to add a dipstick to a later TR3A if you can find
an early top cover.
And it is possible to put an early top cover (with dipstick) onto a
4-synchro box, by swapping parts within the top cover.
