Be warned, however, that some A-types (like for early Stag) have a
horizontal solenoid too.
Another point of identification is the drain plug on the bottom. The A-type
has a single great big plug some 3" in diameter screwed directly into the
body casting. The J-type has a flat plate bolted to the body, with 3
smaller plugs of different sizes but roughly 1" in diameter.
