Chris,

I'm in Maine so heat most important. My garage is equipped with an oil fired
hot air furnace. When not used as a shop the garage can go stone cold and
freeze solid without harm to the furnace. Letting it freeze pretty much
eliminates the indoor plumbing option. Planting bushes was a pretty good
suggestion.

Air comp- get the biggest with the largest tank possible. Vertical units use
less floor space. Take the time to run tubing high around the walls for your
air supply. Compressor manufacturers offer tips on just how the plumbing
should be arranged to eliminate water. Think air tools and maybe a blast
cabinet.

Floor- If you are going to be doing serious work with a cutting torch,
welders, etc bare concrete or sealed concrete is hard to beat. A storage or
display section would look great with one of the new upscale tile floors.
British cars on those tile floors would require drip pans or maybe some of
those NASA diapers.

Painting? If you are planning on spray painting, devise a way to close off
the paint bay from the rest of the shop. Close the area off when sanding or
grinding too. You'll want really good ventilation for that bay. I'm very
sensitive to the new paints so before painting again I would insist on a
fresh air supplied hood.

Lots and lots of wall outlets with a bunch of extras for your work bench
area. 220V outlets in a couple of locations and plenty of light fixtures.

I don't have a beer fridge but there is telephone, an internet connection,
cable TV, and a four post lift.

Geez now I'm thinking about all the things to be done to spruce up my own
shop but it's way too cold out there right now. Maybe in another month or
two. . .
