All,
I am not a certified welder, but a relatively accomplished novice who has
filled a number of holes in my old LBC. One trick that I have used, on mild
steel at least, is the placement of a flat piece of copper behind the weld
hole. My understanding is that weld won't stick the the copper, but it keeps
the hot metal from falling through the hole. I actually flattened a peice of
soft copper pipe, stick a screwdriover in the end to hold on...and there you go.
