As part of the front suspension rebuild on my '60 TR3 I'm also
rebuilding the front brakes. I've installed new rotors (from Moss;
stock type), new SS pistons, new seals and dust boots, new braided SS
hoses, and new EBC Green Stuff pads. I have not yet refilled with brake
fluid (LMA) or bled the system.
I pushed the new pistons in as far as I could using two light duty
clamps with rubber pads (not enough pressure to deform the thin outer
rim of the piston). After mounting the calipers and centering with
shims the brake pads were difficult to insert on the driver's side
caliper and the rotor drags against them badly when I try to turn it.
Question: Should I expect enough vacuum to be applied to the pistons to
retract them completely when I bleed the system and apply/let-off the
brakes, or is this a warning sign that things will not get better?
