Seems I have heard of shows using a 'preservation class' that was for
nearly original vehicles in unrestored/patina condition. Was that a TR
show I'm thinking of or somewhere else?

I am told that the Antique Auto Club of America has a class they call
Historic Preservation of Historical Features or HPOF. It is for unrestored
original cars. I think they say at least 85% original is required. Bill Sohl
former VTR Board Member was telling me about it but I have not heard anymore
from
him. Anyone know anything about this?
I thought it would be an neat idea for VTR. Any interest? I think the 15%
can be modifications that make them actually run better so that would be
cool. Judging Standards would be relaxed for the condition obviously. My
three
Wedges would fit right in since they are all factory original. Well, er OK I
powder coated the suspension parts when I renewed all the bushings, spring
and shocks but that is less than 15%. The TR8's Poseidon Green paint is all
checked and such but I have no need to redo it. Hey that paint was sprayed in
England! The VE Edition TR7 paint is OK but no matter how much you polish it
still looks rather dull. The FI 81 TR7 was NOS when I bought it so it still
looks great. I will never restore any of them. That would be a waste IMHO.
Well, er, I would like to drop a Sprint engine conversion in the 76 since it
is a pig to drive. I suppose that would bust the 15%, Huh? LOL
I believe the HPOF class is also a non-competitive class so owners are not
going against one another but just going for certificates of excellence or some
other form of recognition. Over the years I have had the opportunity to
judge a few of these cars including a time warped Signal Red TR3A. I learned
more from that car than any one could ever learn from reference books or
supposed 400 pt restorations. It was all worn out but perfectly untouched and
original.

Darrell
PS Currently TRA has a Premier Class, VTR has Senior and Preservation
Classes and 6PACK has the Continue the Legend Class. These are either for
previous
BOS or multiple First in Class winners. The idea is to prevent the same
cars from winning every year.
