As I continue my fact finding on the TBI conversion, I've been trading
emails with CustomEFIS (http://www.customefis.com/triumph.html) which
provides the electronic components for the conversion. Part of the
conversion requires modifying the existing distributor for the needed
components. John at CustomEFIS stated:
"I am looking into using brand new distributors from MSD. My conversion is
not as professional as I want it to be. This will raise the kit cost by
$100. The downside to this change is that if you have a tach drive
distributor, the MSD won't work. The distributor issue is still up in the
air though. I have to have a special ring made for an MSD distributor to fit
in the Triumph engine."
So, three questions for the List:
1. Has anyone used an MSD distributor in their TR6 and how did you overcome
the "ring problem" mentioned by John?
2. Does anyone make an electronic tach that works with an MSD distributor
AND fits in the existing TR6 dash opening?
3. A while back someone said that they had modified their Smith mechanical
tach to electronic but I can't find that email now. Can you repost how you
did the conversion?
Thanks as always.
