Bob:
Removal of the tank is very simple and straightforward. It's
removed from the trunk. The most important step is to carefully drain
the gas and take the appropriate precautions concerning the gas
fumes. Once you remove the gas cap and look at the lines coming to and
from the tank from underneath, the process will be self-evident.
I also have a '75. I removed the gas tank a couple of years ago to
have it cleaned out and sealed. Yes, the tank has an evaporative hose
that runs to the canister in the engine compartment. In addition, the
tank has other un-used openings that, I assume, were for EFI cars.
I really can't think of any pitfalls in the removal/replacement
process, so all should go well.
