I think the latest rumor I saw in print is that BMW met with their U.S.
dealers, who whined that they didn't want the extra cost of signage for
a new "brand." Because buying new signs to introduce the new MINI brand
has gone so badly for them, what with the waiting lists and premiums
over MSRP and all. ;) So they say the roadster based on the MINI
platform is likely to be just a MINI roadster.
But if all that is just to throw us off the track, then I say no matter
which Triumph inspires the new roadster, there's no reason they couldn't
reuse TR4 doors one more time! Good enough for the TR4, TR5/250, and TR6
-- good enough for the new Triumph!
