According to a member of another British car list... the following item
in the VTR classifieds is a scam:
http://www.vtr.org/classifieds/detail.php?siteid=1745&PHPSESSID=3a187e89dcd11637dcd609e37027b8bd
The person stated is that (his) money was wired to the seller's account,
but there is no seller, no car, the account the money went to is now
closed, the address given belongs to an innocent third party, etc. The
buyer said the 'seller' really knew his TRs and was quite convincing...
now he is out $9,000.
If this is true (and I have no reason to doubt the report) then proceed
with an abundance of caution when dealing with unknown sellers -- always
a good idea of course, but moreso in that having pulled this once (or
possibly more often) he probably won't stop now.
