Tires I think are a similiar problem-other than collectors, who drives
tires
more than 6 years without wearing them out?

Lots of people. I'm not one of them, since I must drive various cars well
over 20,000 miles per year. But my nearly 89-year-old mother has put probably
not much more than that on the Mercury Mystique she bought six years ago. We
have replaced two of the four nearly new tires that came on the car when she
bought it, and the other two are due to be replaced soon.
My Herald, on the other hand, has seen almost 25,000 miles since I bought it
four years ago. I replaced the well-worn off-brand tires two years ago, and
two of those (admittedly used about 40% but only a couple years old) will
probably be replaced next year sometime.

*Mrs Irrelevant: Oh, is it a jet?
*Man: Well, no ... It's not so much of a jet, it's more your, er,
Triumph Herald engine with wings.
