Hi List,
A few days ago I posted a question to the list regarding the difference in
the front vertical links on my TR4A and I think I have solved it.
To refresh everyone's memory here is what I was trying to solve. My first
TR4A had a "restored" chassis under it when I bought it. Unfortunately, the
chassis was for a TR-250, not a 4A. That led to big problems trying to fit
my TR4A motor without hitting the steering rack which was in the perfect
position for a 250! I chalked that up to not taking a knowledgeable TR4A
person with me to look at it in the first place. (Not that I knew anyone
like that at the time).
After selling off the wrong pieces of that car, I then got the chassis and
body of a second TR4A for my TR4A motor and drive train.
As I finally got to the chassis restoration of my present TR4A, I noticed
that the front vertical links were missing the grease fitting for the lower
trunion and I was stopped cold.
Fast forward to the other night as I was looking through an old Moss catalog
and I noticed that the TR4 vertical link had no grease fitting. This was
because the lower trunion had the fitting.
Did I mention that both vertical links have the same part number cast into
them??
I know that my second TR4A chassis had accident damage to the left front
suspension.
Based upon that information, I think what happened was that the left front
vertical link was damaged and a TR4 version was substituted in it's place.
The good news is that I have the correct parts from the "250" chassis.
Problem solved I hope and eventually this pile of parts in my garage will
render back down to a TR4A!
By the way, I just have to run electric to my new garage oven and I will be
able to start powder coating soon! I am really looking forward to that.
Hopefully, the other projects around the house will finish up soon so I can
get back to the Triumph.
Best Regards,
Dave Connitt
