Alex-
Did you look in a TRF catalog? I sort of remember
seeing the gasket in there.
This is NOT a compression fitting. There actually
should be a small rubber gasket in there. In the
past, I have used thin rubber gasket material cut to
fit, a small o-ring (leftover from carb overhaul kit)
that fit in the fitting nut, even a gasket made from
cereal box cardboard in a pinch. The cardboard one
lasted for years!
Anyhow, make some type of gasket and tighten (but do
not overtighten) the fitting nut.
Regards,
Chad

Subject: [TR] grommet for oil pressure gauge?
Listers
I wen to remove the digital AM/FM/Cassette from the
dash of my 1976
TR6 today to replace it with a vintage analog one
(digital readout
offended me in an LBC).
When I pulled the radio, I found a largely
disintegrated, folded over
MANY times, piece of paper towel SATURATED in motor
oil. The only
explanation for this is that the DPO found he had a
leak in the line
to the oil pressure gauge and did nothing to fix it.
All wires etc.
are completely soaked.
I checked the connection to the gauge and found that I
could
relatively easily twist the line even though the nut
was tight. When
I pulled the connection, I found that it was a metal
on metal
connection. It seems to me there should be a grommet
to seal it. I
looked in the catalogs, but it did not show one.
Is the supposed to be a grommet or seal here?
Should I replace the line from the engine?
What is the best way to clean the mess?
All answers appreciated.
TIA
Alex
