Hi Mark, there are some other differences in safety rules that can trip you
up.
Here's a good article about importing a London taxi (LBC content ;-)
http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/mj/import.htm
It has a link to the Canadian government web-site http://www.tc.gc.ca
which leads to a list of US cars and what needs to be changed to make
them compliant. http://www.riv.ca/english/US_vehicle_admissibility.pdf
Best to check before you commit to a purchase - it can get expensive for
subtle changes. A buddy at work discovered that his 2003 Ford Focus
did not have Canadian-spec daytime running lights. The dealer wanted
$500 for a new wiring loom section. A call to Ford head office
pointing out that the dealer had sold him an illegal car got that sorted.
And check out whether the warranty will be honoured in Canada.
