Well,
I received my pump blanking plug yesterday from Frank Fisher out of Vernon Ca.
And a thank you very much goes out to Frank. Nice work!!
So I put the plug in, hooked up the electric pump and turned on the juice.
Well the carbs leaked, one float valve was stuck. Gas everywhere. Well at
least the pump works.
Fixed the leaks, replaced the crappy float valve and let her rip part 2.
Engine fired right up and ran steady. Not too bad for a static light bulb
timing and a guess on the carbs. Exhaust nice and clean. When I goose it,
revs right up nice. Very good oil flow up to the rockers. 60 lbs oil pressure
at high idle.
I had the head rebuilt at a local machine shop. They boiled it, planed it a
bit, installed hardened exhaust seats, new bronze valve guides, hardened
exhaust valves and new intake valves. Now I can run with unleaded without the
additive. I wish I did that on the TR3 but that was about 25 years ago and I
could still buy the leaded stuff.
The Bell exhaust is installed and sounds nice. Looks nice too, SS all the way
from the manifolds to the tail.
That is about it for the frame with the exception of bleading the brakes and
clutch.
Now the fun begins with the body shell. I have it almost all de-undercoated
and de greased. Also had fun removing all the black seam sealer and the
contact cement. Another week and I can begin blasting. That will be a job.
This project is 1 year and 4 months so far. How did I ever do a complete body
off TR3A in a year??? I did work every day on that one. Now 25 years later, I
am too busy with a small business that is starting to grow, finishing off
the kitchen for the 2nd time, mowing the lawn and running. I am lucky to get
1 or 2 evenings a week.
Took a few pics for my journal.
