My experience was the red grease was a bit thick and the piston did not
return. I then had to dismantle it again, clean it up and use the Dot 5.

Most likely it is compatible, since DOT 5 is compatible with most
things. Still, I think the DOT 5 is better. I've seen the "red grease"
turn to hard chunks.
