I use an Airguide bubble compass and it reads the same regardless of
engine on/off, headlights, accessories, etc.
I've got it dialed in to about 5 degrees of accuracy which works for me
-- I'm more interested in what general direction a road is taking me
than, say, trying to find Bar Harbor Maine in a dense fog with an open boat.
